Bad Weather at Camp? Rain or Shine, the Adventure Goes On!
At Wilderwood Camps, we believe in embracing the outdoors, no matter the weather. Unless conditions are unsafe—like lightning, high winds, or extreme cold—we continue with our day as planned. Rain, mud, or a little extra chill isn’t something we shy away from; instead, we see it as an opportunity to create unique and exciting memories for your children.
Playing in the Elements
When the rain starts to fall, we don’t rush to pack up and head indoors. Instead, we gear up and step out! With proper raincoats, boots, and a sense of adventure, the outdoors transforms into a whole new playground. Whether it’s splashing through puddles, playing games in the mud, or creating impromptu water trails, rainy days are often the most fun and unforgettable ones at camp.
Why We Do It
Building Resilience: Learning to adapt to different environments helps children become more confident and flexible.
Encouraging Play: Mud and rain offer natural sensory experiences that kids love, allowing them to explore and create in ways they might not otherwise.
Connecting with Nature: Experiencing all aspects of the outdoors fosters a deeper appreciation for the natural world, teaching kids to see beauty in all weather conditions.
Our Safety Commitment
Of course, safety always comes first. If the weather poses any danger—like thunderstorms or freezing conditions—we adapt our plans and move activities indoors or to sheltered areas. However, if it’s just rain or some mud, the adventure continues!
Preparing for Rainy-Day Fun
To help your child enjoy the experience to the fullest, here’s what to pack:
A durable, waterproof raincoat
Waterproof boots for splashing through puddles
A spare set of clothes for when the muddy fun is over
A towel for quick cleanup
By embracing the weather, we teach campers to face challenges with a positive attitude and discover joy in unexpected moments. Rainy days aren’t setbacks; they’re opportunities to make camp even more magical.
At Wilderwood Camps, we’re here to remind kids that a little rain can’t wash away a great adventure. Let’s get outside, stay outside, and play outside—rain or shine!
